Mindfulness in a Year When Mindfulness Seems Impossible – Zoom with Diane Urban

Mindfulness is a “mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.”   But who wants to focus on the present moment these days?  Who is calm?  Who can calmly acknowledge thoughts and feelings?

Mindfulness is a challenge in the best of times, but 2020 has brought the challenge to the Olympic level.  This workshop is designed to explore the obstacles to mindfulness, how to clear the path to that goal, and, most importantly, it is designed to bring us all a little joy.

Join me for an hour long online discussion via Zoom at 7PM on Thursday, August 27th.

The fee is $5.00 for one; $10.00 for 2 or more, payable in advance via Venmo (@Diane-Urban-5)

  1. Many people I know lost their lives to Covid-19. And what makes it sad a lot of people still could careless of this virus, at first I didn’t take it serious. Until unfortunately one day a resident at my job contracted the virus,I must say he didn’t make it and It was very eye opening n traumatizing for me. Now I’ve been suffering with depression and anxiety for years, sometimes I have it under control. When I saw what happened to that resident and I started to watch the news ,and more residents at my job got sick, and one of my family contracted the virus, my mental health got worse. So I went back to the drawing board and see how I could help myself stay ‘sane’. I had to journal twice a day, speak with my therapist and try to read interesting articles. I also started to make home remedy teas for COVID like ‘garlic tea’ with lemon and honey with a little bit of turmeric. My family and I would drink this tea at least 3 times a day. I have so many stories about people whole contracted this virus but I would need a whole book. So trust me Professor It’s hard for people to stay calm these days.

  2. This zoom I missed a while ago I wish I attended. Mindfulness is a topic that really should be focussed on. When life doesn’t go your way, you feel drained and mentally unstable, but in reality yes you may have messed up but every day can’t be a good day. we need to accept bad days so we can appreciate the good. The way I was raised was quite raw. being sensitive in my family with 3 older brothers, being sad just justified a weak point and failure and they’d use it against me so even when I was upset Id turn to other things like training, fighting, etc that relieves stress for me. so from the start, I was mentally tough in ways so many people won’t be. when covid came around, I decided that since I was trapped like the rest of the world, I was gonna take advantage of this time and outwork everyone else… and I did, I haven’t stopped working out, wrestling, and boxing since march… I told myself to grind when no one was watching or doing it and now I seem like an animal to the people who don’t do what I do and it causes their egos to fly high because they don’t have what I have. , your mindful state of mind is very important and you must train your brain to be strong even when being strong is the hardest thing.

  3. Mindfulness is very hard for a human to achieve! I always feel that right when I am close to being content, something always sets me back. Especially in the year 2020 and all of these conflicts we are facing as the human race.

  4. This time and era now with the pandemic has changes the state of mindfulness. People are aware but not towards other people feelings it is more their mere state of survival. People are mindful about their own survival. The world has in many aspects a lot of the meaning of words. These definition now has to be revisited for most words. It is funny how environmental infulence and change life as know it.
